Manchester Airport refurbishment shows value of mezzanine floors

Manchester Airport is set to undergo a huge transformation to its terminal facilities and its plans include an extensive mezzanine floor.

The aim of the refurbishment is to be able to handle more passengers and cut waiting times for security checks. The project is centred on terminal two (T2) which will be 150% bigger than its present size. The extra space is mainly being achieved by the installation of a new mezzanine floor which will also add 50% more seating for passengers. The new passenger facilities are expected to be completed in 2019.

The Manchester Airport project highlights the advantages of mezzanine floors for creating more space. There is limited room at the airport to expand buildings, so a mezzanine floor is the ideal way of achieving extra floor space without needing a large building extension.

Manchester Airport is reportedly spending £1 billion on upgrading the airport, but businesses that simply want to add a mezzanine floor without other building improvements will find that they can be very cost effective when compared to extending a workspace or building new premises.

Many businesses that are growing online are finding that they are running out of storage space to keep goods in stock that are needed to fulfil orders. Mezzanine floors with well-designed warehouse shelving or pallet racking systems mean that there is no need for a new warehouse. Mezzanine floors can be constructed quickly so that there is minimal interruption to the business operations.
